Resumo: Archive services and documentation center often lead to misunderstandings as to distinguish their purposes, since both work with documents and information. From this, we sought to develop this work in order to present the differences between these two information services. Through the theoretical framework of the area of Information Sciences, sought to concepts of these two services to distinguish each desktop. The research instrument used was a questionnaire applied to a Archive and a documentation center taken as study object for this work. The order to ascertain compliance with the theory in practice. It was found, with the data obtained, both information services have similarities but are distinct and have unique purposes. However Both the Archive as the documentation center are useful services to the institutions to which they belong, like society, contributing their way of access to information.

A partir disso, pretendeu-se desenvolver esse trabalho com o objetivo de apresentar as diferenças existentes entre esses dois serviços de informação. Através do referencial teórico da área das ciências da informação buscou-se os conceitos desses dois serviços para distinguir cada ambiente de trabalho. O instrumento de pesquisa utilizado foi um questionário, aplicado a um arquivo e a um centro de documentação, tomados como objeto de estudo para esse trabalho a fim de averiguar o cumprimento da teoria na prática. Constatou-se, com os dados obtidos, que ambos os serviços de informação possuem similitudes, mas são distintos e possuem finalidades ímpares.
