Resumo: The built Brazilian cultural heritage is constituted mainly by historic buildings that are currently at risk, finding in preventive conservation a means for their protection. This article discusses what contributions does preventive conservation offer to a sustainable public policy for built cultural heritage? To respond, it is necessary to understand how conservation is linked to the implementation of a sustainable public policy for built historical heritage. Aiming at improving artifacts that solve problems, two government proposals for preventive conservation, Brazilian and Spanish, were presented. It has been demonstrated that the practice of preventive conservation is strongly linked to a sustainable public policy. The Spanish model is in line with the principles of sustainability, contrasting significantly with the Brazilian model. The study contributed to the scientific investigation of applied models, having as a practical and social contribution, the indication that the Brazilian model needs improvement, so that it can be used as an effective and sustainable artifact.

Este artículo discute las contribuciones que la conservación preventiva ofrece a una política pública sostenible para el patrimonio cultural edificado. Para responder a esta pregunta, es necesario comprender cómo la conservación está vinculada a la aplicación de una política pública sostenible para el patrimonio construido. Con vistas a mejorar los artefactos de resolución de problemas, se presentaron dos propuestas gubernamentales de conservación preventiva, una brasileña y otra española. Se demostró que la práctica de la conservación preventiva está fuertemente vinculada a una política pública sostenible. El modelo español se muestra alineado con los principios de sostenibilidad, contrastando significativamente con el modelo brasileño. El estudio contribuyó a la investigación científica de modelos aplicados, con la contribución práctica y social de indicar que el modelo brasileño necesita mejoras, para que pueda ser utilizado como un artefacto eficaz y sostenible.O patrimônio cultural brasileiro edificado é constituído principalmente pelas edificações históricas que atualmente apresentam-se em estado de risco, encontrando na conservação preventiva um meio para sua proteção. Este artigo discute quais as contribuições que a conservação preventiva oferece para uma política pública sustentável do patrimônio cultural edificado? Para responder é necessário compreender de que forma a conservação vincula-se à execução de uma política pública sustentável para o patrimônio histórico edificado. Visando o aperfeiçoamento de artefatos que solucionam problemas, foram apresentadas duas propostas governamentais de conservação preventiva, brasileira e espanhola. Demonstrou-se que a prática da conservação preventiva se vincula fortemente a uma política pública sustentável. O modelo espanhol demonstra-se alinhado aos princípios da sustentabilidade, contrastando significativamente com o modelo brasileiro.
