Resumo: Automotive industry invests heavily in research and engages in a continuous search for new technologies in order to reduce costs and maximize performance and the optimization of the weight-consumption ratio is crucial in their vehicles. Therefore, there is a growing insertion of vegetal fibers and composites in order to reduce the mass of their products, as the use of these materials is one of the ways to improve energy efficiency, while maintaining sustainability requirements. In this context, the present work aims to present some applications of vegetal fibers and their composites in the national and international automotive industries, discoursing about perspectives of their uses, news, incentives, Rota 2030 program and real application examples. In general, the results indicate that the use of these materials tends to increase, due to their physical-mechanical performance and their qualities in replacing conventional materials, which are often from non-renewable sources.

Neste contexto, a otimização da relação peso-consumo é crucial e há uma crescente inserção de fibras naturais e compósitos na redução de massa dos produtos. As indústrias aeronáutica, náutica e principalmente a automobilística, já fazem uso destas tecnologias e o uso de fibras e compósitos são uma das maneiras de melhorar a eficiência energética, mantendo-se os quesitos de sustentabilidade. A indústria automobilística é o nicho onde mais se investe nas novas tecnologias, face à sua grande produção e representatividade mundial e, especificamente no Brasil, foi criado o programa Rota 2030 com o objetivo de incentivar as empresas automobilísticas a investirem em desenvolvimento tecnológico, inovação, segurança veicular e proteção ao meio ambiente.
