INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: AN ANALYSIS OF THE ELECTROINTENSIVE SEGMENT IN BRAZIL

The purpose of this article is to strategically analyze electro-intensive industrial production as a contributor to the sustainable development process in the country. The relevance of this investigation lies in the possibility of raising subsidies for decision-making in the public environment, in order to meet social demands according to the bases of sustainable development. The methodology, of a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive nature, approaches the industrial mineral production in Brazil, through a multidimensional analysis, based on the tripod of sustainable development. In this perspective, the research technique used was Content Analysis and the time frame, between 2018 and 2022. The study concluded that the electro-intensive industry in Brazil, through the mineral industries, does not reasonably contribute to efforts aimed at promoting sustainable development in the country. The Brazilian mineral segment is incapable of effectively and proportionally adding value to mineral production and does not translate its high profile of electricity consumption in response to the demands of Brazilian society, due to the high tax benefits offered to this segment, due to its primary nature to exports through under-invoicing of its inputs, and the artificial competitiveness on which the sector is sustained.
