Resumo: This paper presents a new term for studies related to the development of bioinspired solutions – vernacular biomimetics – which can have two forms of action. The first consists of identifying and recording the technical solutions conceived by social groups that have direct contact with nature, such as sertanejo (from the Sertão region), indigenous and quilombola people; and the second is related to the development of biomimetic solutions focused on improving the living conditions of these groups, starting with local action. Within this second approach, family farming tools were redesigned, taking into account the methodological process of product design, using as references natural devices present in the fauna of the semi-arid and Zona da Mata regions in Northeastern Brazil.
