The Teaching and Learning of Time Value in the Portuguese Classroom: A Proposal for a Grammar Laboratory

Resumo: The linguistic reflective knowledge is part of the students' learning, inserted in ??grammar didactics, a specific component of Portuguese didactics. From the perspective of Pedagogical Linguistics, this work should focus on the development of students' linguistic awareness, with a view to deepening explicit knowledge. In this essay, we describe the grammar laboratory model, as illustrated by Duarte (1992) and Rodrigues and Silvano (2010), and we trace an exemplary pedagogical path of an experimental proposal aimed at studying the temporal value in adverbial subordination for the 7th grade. The laboratory has two objectives: to identify and classify clauses with time value and to understand the notions of anteriority, simultaneity and posteriority associated with these clauses. We also consider the concept of “didactic sequence”. Finally, we draw some conclusions about the innovative character of this approach since grammar learning is often rooted in traditional teaching methods.

Desde la perspectiva de la Linguistica Educativa, este trabajo debe centrarse en el desarrollo de la conciencia lingüística de los estudiantes, con vistas a la profundización del conocimiento explícito. En este ensayo, describimos el modelo de laboratorio de gramática, tal como lo ilustran Duarte (1992) y Rodrigues y Silvano (2010), y trazamos un camino pedagógico ejemplar de una propuesta experimental dirigida a estudiar el valor temporal en la subordinación adverbial para el 7º. calificación. El laboratorio tiene dos objetivos: identificar y clasificar cláusulas con valor temporal y comprender las nociones de anterioridad, simultaneidad y posterioridad asociadas a estas cláusulas. También consideramos el concepto de “secuencia didáctica”. Finalmente, extraemos algunas conclusiones sobre el carácter innovador de este enfoque, ya que el aprendizaje de la gramática a menudo tiene sus raíces en los métodos de enseñanza tradicionales.O conhecimento reflexivo da língua materna é parte das aprendizagens dos alunos, inserindo-se na área da didática da gramática, componente específico da didática do Português. Na perspetiva da Linguística Educacional, este trabalho deve privilegiar o desenvolvimento da consciência linguística dos alunos, com vista a aprofundar o conhecimento explícito. Neste ensaio, descrevemos o modelo do laboratório gramatical, tal como ilustrado por Duarte (1992) e Rodrigues e Silvano (2010), traçando um percurso pedagógico exemplificativo de uma proposta experimental destinada ao estudo do valor temporal na subordinação adverbial para o sétimo ano de escolaridade. O laboratório possui dois objetivos: identificar e classificar orações com valor de tempo e compreender as noções de anterioridade, simultaneidade e posterioridade associadas a essas orações. Consideramos, ainda, o conceito de “sequência didática”.
