Supranational political-linguistic activism: the performance of the inter-american commision on human rights in the protection of autochtonous languages in the context of the SARS-COV-2

This study was developed based on the analysis of the circumstances involved in care policies directed at indigenous peoples included in the spectrum of inter-American countries. Based on the work of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights - IACHR during the Sars-CoV-2 pandemic, we aim to understand the political role of this supranational organ in articulating recommendations to the States submitted to its jurisdiction, especially those recommendations that had as their main focus the recognition of language issues as a central element in the development of effective health policies to mitigate the devastating effects of the pandemic among indigenous populations. The analyzes carried out, based on a language policy approach, enable us to take the IACHR as a supranational instance of linguistic political activism, and it is responsible, according to Silva and Abreu (2020) and Silva (2021), for the management of the most extensive language policy in the American continent, especially in what concerns the linguistic human rights of traditional peoples.
