Portuguese language textbooks in the Discourse and in the History: the edition sheets of O nosso idioma (1936-1950)

Based on the edition sheets of O nosso idioma: curso elementar, which longitudinally record the book’s editorial data, I aim to investigate the possibilities of, theoretically and methodologically, determining relations between textbooks and their socio-historical conditions of emergence and permanence in its social space. Therefore, I assume an applied approach in a discursive basis that, through the notion of discursive event, comes close to the procedures of History, specifically, the serial method. In this sense, I propose that the relations between the instances of production, circulation and reception of textbooks should be conceived as a discursive event and the data in series of the edition sheets as statements informed by the socio-historical conditions of these instances. The results show that, when approaching a textbook in the defended terms, it is possible to open a path to capture its contradictory relations with sociopolitical facts, as educational reforms, putting away mechanistic readings from its emergence and socio-historical permanence.
