Discursive effects of the pandemic: incidences of biopower on education professionals in Santa Catarina

Resumo: | Due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has been ravaging the world since March 2020, much thought has been given to its effects on the social body. This article aims to discuss the tensioning in the discourse regarding education, mainly the school closure during a pandemic in two moments: the beginning of the pandemic (March/2020) and its peak (March/2021). The theoretical framework is based on the following concepts: biopolitics (FOUCAULT, 2005; 2014; ESPOSITO, 2017); necropolitics (MBEMBE, 2018); governmentality (FOUCAULT, 1979b); and economization (BROWN, 2017; 2018). The scope of this work falls on the discourses reported on a news platform in the state of Santa Catarina. The period was chosen in order to contrast possible differences between the discourses of the beginning of the pandemic and those of the next year. The results point to a change in attitude on the part of the government regarding the school closure from March 2020 to March 2021. |

El propósito de este artículo es discutir la tensión en los discursos sobre la educación, principalmente el cierre de escuelas durante una pandemia en dos momentos: el inicio de la pandemia (marzo/2020) y el pico de la pandemia (marzo/2021). Presentamos, como marco teórico, los conceptos de biopolítica (FOUCAULT, 2005; 2014; ESPOSITO, 2017); necropolítica (MBEMBE, 2018); gubernamentalidad (FOUCAULT, 1979b); y economización (BROWN, 2017; 2018). El alcance de este trabajo recae en los discursos difundidos en una plataforma de noticias del estado de Santa Catarina. El período se eligió para contrastar posibles diferencias en el discurso del inicio de la pandemia y los del año siguiente. Como resultado, vemos un cambio de actitud por parte del gobierno con respecto al cierre de escuelas de marzo de 2020 a marzo de 2021.Devido à pandemia de COVID-19 que assola o mundo desde 2020, muito tem-se refletido sobre os seus efeitos sobre o corpo social. O objetivo deste artigo é discutir os tensionamentos nos discursos a respeito da educação, principalmente do fechamento das escolas durante pandemia em dois momentos: início da pandemia (março/2020) e seu auge (março/2021). Apresentamos, como quadro teórico, os conceitos de biopolítica (FOUCAULT, 2005; 2014; ESPOSITO, 2017); necropolítica (MBEMBE, 2018); governamentalidade (FOUCAULT, 1979b); e economicização (BROWN, 2017; 2018). O escopo deste trabalho recai sobre os discursos veiculados em uma plataforma de notícias do estado de Santa Catarina. A escolha do período se deu com o intuito de contrastar possíveis diferenças nos discursos do início da pandemia e naqueles de um ano depois.
