Resumo: | This article seeks to present a reflection on the influence of Weberian thought on the understanding of the mainline Protestant denominations in Brazil. Weber was present in pioneering academic productions on the theme that were elaborated by the sociologist Cândido Procópio Ferreira de Camargo, the theologian Rubem Azevedo Alves and the historian Antônio Gouvêa Mendonça. When observing the production of these authors, we note the validity of the Weberian propositions to understand the presence of evangelicals in the country. Thus, understanding the analytical Weberian assumptions, the relationship between Protestantism and the capitalist system, as well as the elaboration of ideal types, allows the student of the theme a better understanding of the evangelical presence in the national religious sphere. |
