In this article we will discuss the Farrapos’ War, which isalso called the Farroupilha Revolution - occurred in Rio Grande do Sulbetween the years 1835 to 1845. This civil war is the most debated historicalphenomenon by the sulriograndense historiography, arousing the interest ofseveral academic researchers and dilettantes. In addition to this interest byresearchers, the Farrapos War went to the official celebrations calendar in theState of Rio Grande do Sul, having a week in its name - Farroupilha Week -in which rancher`s old habits are celebrated and ritualized, being mostly ofthem slaveholders, who carried out a fratricidal struggle in search of greaterspace for political and economic representation in the central government.Thus, we understand that the celebration and ritualizing of Farrapos War, onSeptember 20 - the date that marks the beginning of the confrontation - cannot be accomplished without understanding its real historical significance,representing the conflict to contemporaneity and what interests were at stake.We have had a great historiographical possibility which is available and theprimary documentation provided by the Rio Grande do Sul Historical Archive,as well as copies of the Ragamuffin official journal.
