Resumo: | After a bibliometric update of the number of articles published on Latin America as the main topic of study in the Journal of World History and Journal of Global History, it was ratified that there is a peripheralization of the continent. The objective of this article is to question whether this is a quantitative phenomenon or if there are exceptions in this regard; that is, what are the institutional factors that underlie this phenomenon? The exposition is divided in three parts. First, the findings related to the bibliometric update are detailed; then, four examples in which the role of Latin America is relevant in influential narratives that connect with global history are presented; finally, some factors that try to explain the nature of these manifestations are shown, displaying a panorama of lights and shadows on Latin America in the interpretations of global history. |
