Resumo: In this article, we start with a survey of the approaches on Atlantic slavery, aiming to assess the relevance of global history when dealing with specific themes. Firstly, a historiographical balance is presented, tracing past and present approaches on the theme produced within the framework of compared history and, more recently and explicitly, of global history, whose contributions provide important subsidies for our field of interest. Next, some theoretical and methodological considerations are presented to support the construction of an agenda of research that has as its core concern the temporal multiplicity of Atlantic slavery in its relation with the dynamics of capitalism.

Em primeiro lugar, realiza-se um balanço historiográfico rastreando-se trabalhos e abordagens passadas e presentes sobre o tema, produzidos no âmbito da história comparada e, mais recente e explicitamente, da história global, cujas contribuições fornecem subsídios importantes para o campo de nosso interesse.
