Democracy, Liberation, Revolution: Discourses and Ideas of Argentine Student Movement During the 1980s

In the context of the so-called transition to democracy during the 1980s, the Argentine student movement played a prominent role in various political, social and university processes, both for its mobilizations against the dictatorship and for the place it assumed (and was assigned to it) in the early post-dictatorship as a model of values ​​of the brand new democracy, in opposition to the “violence” of the 1960s and 1970s. At the same time, the main student groups and political youths that proclaimed those ideas, simultaneously took up slogans such as "national liberation", or even "revolution", which were integrated and re-signified within the new context. In this way, this work proposes to examine the discourses and ideas of the Argentine political youths in the 1980s, based on the way in which the notions of democracy, liberation and revolution were combined, seeking to provide a more complex view of the imaginary that defined the transition years.
