Alibian studies in Mato Grosso: the names for prostitute

This paper studies the names documented by the Atlas Linguistic of Brazil Project (PROJETO ALiB) in Mato Grosso/ MT for “[...] the woman who sells herself to any man” (COMITÊ NACIONAL DO PROJETO ALIB, 2001, p. 32). Under the theoretical support of Dialectology and Geolinguistics and based on authors such as Isquerdo (2008), Cardoso (2010) and Mota and Cardoso (2012), among others, the research analyzed the documented data in nine localities in Mato Grosso, belonging to the network points of that national project, aiming to identify the vocabulary related to the semantic area of social interaction and behavior documented by the ALiB Project, question 142 of the QSL/ALiB, with a view to verifying linguistic aspects that distinguish the lexical standard of the inhabitants of these locations. From the analysis of the 25 designations for the referent in question, it was confirmed that extralinguistic issues are reflected in the lexicon in use by the community, ratifying the importance of geolinguistic surveys for the documentation and dissemination of the Mato Grosso linguistic reality, represented here by names for the prostitute.
