Approaches about women and feminisms in the Library of Congress subject headings

Objective: Investigate the terminologies about women and feminisms within the Library of Congress Subject Headings in order to better understand how these subjects are organized. Methodology: It uses exploratory research methods with bibliographic review and documental research and consists of two sections: analysis of research published by scholars and analysis carried out through searches carried out in the LC Linked Data Service. Results: In view of the dialogue with the authors, Berman (1971), Olson (2000) and Wood (2010) emphasize that the LCSH has a series of distortions and suggests terminologies for maturing about women and feminisms, considering that some were implemented and others were not; as for the searches carried out in the Linked Data Service tool, seven of the ten terms found refer to the year 2021, which may indicate a recent opening of the LC in the creation of terms. Conclusion: The Library of Congress Subject Headings present historical inconsistencies in terminology about women and feminisms that have been partially resolved but that still present certain political, cultural, and cognitive gaps.
