Resumo: The goal of this paper was to present some thoughts about the involvement of the government with sport in the context of sport mega-events and about the real “players” of these events. We conclude that considering the battle of interests and power that takes place between different actors involved in these events, the government agenda dos not prioritize sport development. It is concerned mainly with the projection of the image and with the economic development of the country and of some influential groups. In other words, the interests turn more to the political and economic context than to sport.

In other words, the interests turn more to the political and economic context than to sport.  El objetivo de este trabajo fue desarrollar algunas reflexiones acerca de la implicación de los gobiernos con el deporte, en el contexto de los megaeventos deportivos, y acerca de los reales “jugadores” de estos grandes eventos. Concluimos que delante del juego de interés y de poder que se establece entre diferentes agentes que están envueltos en estos eventos, la pauta de la realización de los mismos poco se direcciona al desarrollo del deporte. Ella se vuelve principalmente para la proyección de la imagen y desarrollo económico del país y de algunos grupos influyentes. O sea, los intereses se vuelven más para el ámbito político y económico que para el ámbito deportivo.   O objetivo deste trabalho foi desenvolver algumas reflexões acerca do envolvimento dos governos com o esporte no contexto dos megaeventos esportivos e acerca dos reais “jogadores” destes grandes eventos. Concluímos que diante do jogo de interesses e de poder que se estabelece entre diferentes agentes envolvidos nestes eventos, a pauta da realização dos mesmos pouco se direciona ao desenvolvimento do esporte. Ela se volta principalmente para a projeção da imagem e desenvolvimento econômico do país e de alguns grupos influentes.
