Resumo: | The article is the result of the academic partnership between IELA/UFSC - Institute of Latin American Studies – and Edie Cottle, a South African researcher, author of critical papers concerning the impacts the 2010 FIFA World Cup in the life of that country's population. Employing the methodology used in that research, this study aims to reveal the true costs and possible overbillings the construction of Brazilian arenas that will receive the 2014 World Cup games. |

Employing the methodology used in that research, this study aims to reveal the true costs and possible overbillings the construction of Brazilian arenas that will receive the 2014 World Cup games. El artículo es fruto de la asociación académica establecida entre el IELA/UFASC – Instituto de Estudios Latino-Americanos – y Eddie Cottle, investigador sudafricano, responsable por producciones críticas sobre los impactos de la Copa del Mundo FIFA 2010 en la vida de la población de aquel país. Empleando la metodología usada en la investigación de Sudáfrica, este estudio objetiva revelar los verdaderos costes y posibles facturas engañosas de la construcción y reforma de arenas brasileñas que recibirán los juegos de la Copa de 2014. O artigo é o resultado da parceria acadêmica entre IELA / UFSC - Instituto de Estudos Latino-Americanos e Edie Cottle, um pesquisador Sul-Africano, autor de artigos críticos sobre os impactos da Copa do Mundo da FIFA de 2010 na vida da população daquele país.
