Classical ballet training in Brazil: perceptions on the new ways of education and the unstable market for dancers from a specific context

Resumo: | The research aimed to investigate a ballet training institution and identify pedagogical characteristics. The approach was made through direct observation and interviews with teachers and dancers. It was noticed concern with the image of authoritarianism linked to this environment by teachers and, in the dancers' speeches, the existence of marks of suffering caused by the perception that their efforts may not be enough to achieve success. It was identified that there is a transition between the authoritarian teacher and the educator. In addition, the teachers demonstrated to understand that the classical ballet market in Brazil is small and, therefore, they identified that the pedagogies must also work with broader social and professional values ??and capacities. This proved to be even more prevalent in relation to boys, who come from low socioeconomic classes, start specialization late and usually need to leave when the professional decision phase arrives. |

El abordaje se realizó a través de la observación directa y entrevistas con profesores y bailarines. Se advirtió la preocupación por la imagen de autoritarismo ligada a este entorno por parte de los docentes y, en los discursos de los bailarines, la existencia de marcas de sufrimiento por la percepción de que sus esfuerzos pueden no ser suficientes para lograr éxito. Se identificó que existe una transición entre el maestro autoritario y el educador. Además, los docentes demostraron comprender que el mercado en Brasil es pequeño y, por lo tanto, identificaron que las pedagogías también deben trabajar con valores y capacidades sociales y profesionales más amplios. Esto demostró ser aún más prevalente en relación a los niños, quienes provienen de clases socioeconómicas bajas, comienzan la especialización tarde y generalmente necesitan irse cuando llega la fase de decisión profesional.A pesquisa teve como objetivo investigar uma instituição de formação em balé e identificar características pedagógicas. A abordagem se deu por meio de observação direta e de entrevistas com professores e bailarinos. Percebeu-se preocupação com a imagem de autoritarismo atrelada a esse ambiente por parte dos professores e, nas falas dos bailarinos, a existência de marcas de sofrimento causadas pela percepção de que seus esforços podem não ser suficientes para atingir sucesso. Identificou-se que existe uma transição entre o professor autoritário e o educador. Além disso, os professores demonstraram entender que o mercado do balé clássico no Brasil é exíguo e, assim, identificaram que as pedagogias devem trabalhar também valores e capacidades sociais e profissionais mais amplas.
