Resumo: This research consists in a systematic review of the theme “media-education and childhood”, in english language journals between 2003 and 2012. Nine journals were analyzed, including the fields of Physical Education, Education and Communication. The purpose of this study is to discuss the tendencies in media-education and childhood scientific production. The articles were categorized by “field”, “research emphasis”, “media tool”, “methodological design”. 16 articles were identified within the journals. The analyzed studies give emphasis to the media as a teaching-learning tool. The empirical researches prevail, however theoretical studies were also found in significant numbers. The number of published articles within the theme “media-education and childhood” is considered limited. In front of the challenges imposed to media integration with the children education process this theme presents itself as a promising research agenda to the physical educational field.

Nueve revistas fueron analizados, incluyendo el campo de la Educación Física, Educación y Comunicación. El propósito de este estudio es analizar las tendencias en la producción científica de la media-educación y niñez. Los artículos se clasifican por "campo", "énfasis de la investigación", "herramienta mediática", "diseño metodológico". 16 artículos fueron identificados dentro de las revistas. Los estudios analizados dan énfasis a los medios de comunicación como una herramienta de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Las investigaciones empíricas prevalecen, sin embargo también se encontraron estudios teóricos en números significativos. El número de artículos publicados en el tema se considera limitado. Frente a los retos que impone la integración de medios con el proceso de educación de los niños, este tema se presenta como un programa de investigación prometedora para el campo de la educación física.Esta pesquisa consiste em revisão sistemática de artigos envolvendo a temática “mídia-educação e infância”, em periódicos de língua inglesa, entre os anos de 2003 e 2012. Foram pesquisados nove periódicos, incluindo as áreas de educação física, educação e comunicação. O objetivo é discutir tendências da produção de conhecimento em mídia-educação e infância. Os artigos foram categorizados quanto à “área”, “ênfase de pesquisa”, “ferramenta midiática” e “desenho metodológico”. Foram identificados dezesseis artigos publicados pelas três áreas. Os estudos enfatizam a mídia como meio de ensino-aprendizagem. As pesquisas de campo predominam, contudo os estudos teóricos também foram encontrados em número significativo. Levando em conta o período, consideramos que o número de artigos publicados sobre mídia-educação e infância é limitado.
