Resumo: http://dx.doi.org/10.5007/1984-9222.2016v8n16p11The present article aims to promote a dialog between the historiography that approached the anti-slavery campaign to the labors' combats at Brazilian First Republic and that one that investigate the destination of former slaves and their families after the end of slavery. The article discusses by means of exemplary cases on the Brazilian State of Rio Grande do Sul verified through oral sources, meanly that one of the black peasant and, later, urban worker Manoel Inácio Marques Neto, the expectations of black families on the freedom; the temporal and generational variability of the insertion of black people in the labor market, linking it to their laboral ethics; and the effects of the racism in the choice of manpower. This summary aims to focus some questions of the labor's historiography owing to the contributions of the post-Abolition studies. We'll notice the labor ethics in two decisive moments: the immediate post-Abolition and the middle of the 20th century.

We'll notice the labor ethics in two decisive moments: the immediate post-Abolition and the middle of the 20th century.      O presente artigo tem como objetivo estabelecer um diálogo entre a historiografia que aproximou as lutas anti-escravistas das lutas operárias na Primeira República e aquela que investigou os destinos de antigos escravos e familiares após transcorrido o fim da escravidão. Ambas vertentes datam da década de 2000. Por meio de casos exemplares relativos ao estado brasileiro do Rio Grande do Sul e verificados por meio de fontes escritas e orais, sobretudo o do camponês negro e, mais tarde, trabalhador urbano Manoel Inácio Marques Neto, o artigo discute as expectativas das famílias negras em relação à liberdade; a variedade temporal e geracional da inserção do negro no mercado de trabalho, relacionando-a às suas éticas laborais; e os efeitos do racismo no recrutamento da mão-de-obra.
