Resumo: This article analyzes some issues related to the problem of the public and the private in the Diamantino District, Minas Gerais, during the second half of the 18th century. The objective is to discuss to what extent there was a certain distinction between the referred spheres in the studied context and how it was related to the understanding of the corruption phenomenon at the time. Based on recent historiography on the subject and the research of underexplored manuscript sources, it was possible to highlight how criticisms were abundant towards royal officers who succumbed to vices and passions, prioritizing their private interests over the public or royal interest in the exercise of their offices.
