Through the 19th Century, rebellions incurred in the provinces of Pernambucoand Alagoas as a significant process to the development of the BrazilianState. Even the movement of rebellions were initiated by provincial elites, indigenousgroups had an intense participation on it, mainly groups from the villages ofBarreiros and Jacuípe. This article analyses expectations, motivations, as well theway those indigenous groups was inserted in the Guerra dos Cabanos (1832-1835)and in the Insurreição Praieira (1848). Through these movements, indigenous becameinvolved in a set of political values between the insurrectionist elite and therepressive government, that disputed the military and labour support by the Indigenousgroups, demonstrating the importance of these populations in the armedconflicts and political disputes of the period.
