Feminism, PCB and the debate on domestic work between the 1940s and 1960s: intra-gender relations and the dimensions of race/class

Resumo: The article aims to analyze the debate on domestic work and rights for domestic workers promoted by women linked to the PCB between the 1940s and 1960s. Guided by demands made by working women themselves and by discussions that were being held internationally, the movement mobilized problematizations that went beyond the world of work and the legal sphere insofar as it denatured rooted ideas that domestic work and the management of family daily life were “women's things”. In this sense, he thought of alternatives to “free” women from what he called “domestic slavery”.

Orientado por demandas colocadas pelas próprias mulheres trabalhadoras e por discussões que vinham sendo travadas internacionalmente, o movimento mobilizou problematizações que foram além do mundo do trabalho e do plano jurídico na medida em que desnaturalizou ideias enraizadas de que o trabalho doméstico e a gestão do cotidiano familiar eram “coisas de mulher”.
