Resumo: This article aims to face the problem of characterizing as forced labor performed by dought migrants of Brazilian semi-arid territory (particularly in Ceará) during the late nineteenth century and based on that experience reflect about the relevance of considering the presence of non-free labor relations in the context of "transition to free labor", even social actors on the agenda were not slave laborers.
