Resumo: This article is a discussion of J. G. Ballard’s (semi-)autobiographical war narratives, with a focus on the different textual strategies and processes of signification Ballard employs from his avant-garde novel The Atrocity Exhibition (1970) to the feverish fictional account of his time in World War II China in “The Dead Time” (1977) and Empire of the Sun (1984) to his more reflective autobiographical texts The Kindness of Women (1990) and Miracles of Life (2008). Ballard’s obsessive repetition of many of the same images and attest to a problematics of representation of the traumatic event, and ultimately they represent a complex and rich work of fabulation that escape categorizations of fiction and autobiography.

A repetição obsessiva de Ballard de muitas  imagensatesta uma problemática de representação do evento traumático e, em última análise, elas  representam um trabalho complexo e rico de fabulação que escapa às categorizações de ficção e autobiografia.UFSC2021-01-28info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterro/article/view/7274010.5007/2175-8026.2021.e72740Ilha do Desterro A Journal of English Language, Literatures in English and Cultural Studies; Vol. 74 No. 1 (2021): LiteratureIlha do Desterro A Journal of English Language, Literatures in English and Cultural Studies; v. 74 n. 1 (2021): Literatura2175-80260101-4846reponame:Ilha do Desterroinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)instacron:UFSCenghttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterro/article/view/72740/45320Copyright (c) 2020 Pedro Groppohttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessGroppo, Pedro2021-01-28T02:23:10Zoai:periodicos.ufsc.br:article/72740Revistahttp://www.periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterroPUBhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterro/oaiilha@cce.ufsc.br||corseuil@cce.ufsc.br||ilhadodesterro@gmail.com2175-80260101-4846opendoar:2021-01-28T02:23:10Ilha do Desterro - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)false
