Resumo: The goal of this paper is to investigate the verb particle’s contribution for the event structure in complex particle constructions. The focus will be on a subgroup of constructions that have a secondary predicate denoting a resultant state over an accusative phrase alongside with a verb particle, as we can see in the following examples: John grilled the onions up dry and The farmer painted the barn up red. The argumentation supports the view that the particle contribution is aspectual in its nature, specifically representing a sense of completeness and/or totality, and not telicity proper.

A argumentação é de que a contribuição da partícula é de natureza aspectual, mais especificamente com o sentido de completude e ou totalidade, e não telicidade propriamente.UFSC2020-10-22info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterro/article/view/7343610.5007/2175-8026.2020v73n3p63Ilha do Desterro A Journal of English Language, Literatures in English and Cultural Studies; Vol. 73 No. 3 (2020): English grammar: theoretical and experimental investigations; 63-80Ilha do Desterro A Journal of English Language, Literatures in English and Cultural Studies; v. 73 n. 3 (2020): English grammar: theoretical and experimental investigations; 63-802175-80260101-4846reponame:Ilha do Desterroinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)instacron:UFSCporhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterro/article/view/73436/44507Copyright (c) 2020 Andrea Knopflehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessKnopfle, Andrea2020-10-22T17:34:03Zoai:periodicos.ufsc.br:article/73436Revistahttp://www.periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterroPUBhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/desterro/oaiilha@cce.ufsc.br||corseuil@cce.ufsc.br||ilhadodesterro@gmail.com2175-80260101-4846opendoar:2020-10-22T17:34:03Ilha do Desterro - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)false
