O Brasil possui a quarta colocação no ranking dos maiores produtores, com uma participação de 3,39%, estando atrás da China, UE e Estados Unidos. Devido à crescente demanda pelos consumidores, a suinocultura se intensificou e gerou animais mais produtivos, tanto em aspectos zootécnicos quanto reprodutivos, este último através da origem de fêmeas hiperprolíficas. O estudo feito em uma Unidade Produtora de Leitões de Santa Catarina, avaliou a relação entre o número de nascidos com o peso ao nascimento de 10.195 leitões, distribuídos em 721 leitegadas. Observou-se diferença estatística (P<0,0001) entre tamanho da leitegada e peso ao nascimento, entre as cinco categorias de nascidos vivos formada. Além disso, diferenças estatísticas (P<0,01) foram observadas dentro das categorias criadas, onde leitegadas com número superior a oito nascidos totais já interferem no peso ao nascimento. Com este trabalho, pode-se reforçar a hipótese de que o peso dos leitões ao nascimento é influenciado diretamente pelo tamanho da leitegada.Pork is the second most produced and the most consumed worldwide, generating a total of 110.961 thousand tons of protein in 2017. Due to the increasing consumer demand, pig farming intensified and generated more productive animals, both in zootechnical and reproductive aspects, the latter through the origin of hyperprolific females. The study carried out in a Pig Production Unit of Santa Catarina, evaluated the relationship between the number of births and the birth weight of 10.195 pigs distributed in 721 litters. Statistical difference (P <0.0001) was observed between litter size and birth weight among the five categories of live births. In addition, statistical differences (P <0.01) were observed within the categories created, where litters with more than eight total births already interfere with birth weight.
