Diversas são as tentativas de entendê-lo, sendo alvo de estudo de sociólogos, médicos, religiosos, filósofos, terapeutas, entre outros. O presente trabalho objetiva compreender o suicídio na infância e adolescência e apontar fatores de risco e prevenção para os profissionais de serviço social. Aborda aspectos acerca da atuação profissional do assistente social e demais profissionais de saúde e os limites existentes no atendimento a este fenômeno. Este trabalho foi elaborado mediante pesquisa bibliográfica de caráter exploratório sobre o tema, onde foram reunidos artigos de diversas áreas, coletados em bases de dados, que tratam diretamente do suicídio na infância e/ou adolescência. O trabalho resultou em treze sínteses dos documentos encontrados, contendo considerações acerca do tema ao fim de cada resumo. No decorrer dos treze documentos utilizados para a elaboração do trabalho alguns tópicos se sobressaíram, sendo retomados em discussão no capítulo três. Como resultado da pesquisa conclui-se que uma infância bem cuidada, assim como uma adolescência igualmente observada com atenção podem ser fatores de prevenção ao suicídio, sendo o assistente social um agente que poderá colaborar neste processo.Suicide is a phenomenon that is present in all societies, currently becoming a public health problem. Several are how “to understand it, being studied by sociologists, physicians, religious, philosophers, therapists, among others. The present work aims to understand suicide in childhood and adolescence and to point out risk and prevention factors for social service professionals. It discusses aspects of the professional role of social workers and other health professionals and the limits existing in attending to this phenomenon. This work was elaborated through bibliographical research of exploratory character on the subject, where articles from different areas were gathered, collected in databases, that deal directly with suicide in childhood and/or adolescence. The work resulted in thirteen syntheses of the documents found, containing care of the theme at the end of each abstract. During the thirteen documents used to prepare the work, some topics stood out, being discussed in chapter three.
