Os objetivos específicos desta investigação são verificar se há ocorrência de CS na produção oral dos bilíngues do par português-talian, verificar qual categoria do CS é mais produzida nesse grupo e verificar se a alternância de línguas gera custo de processamento. Dois experimentos, consistindo em uma tarefa de nomeação de figuras e uma tarefa de produção oral livre, foram realizados com 20 bilíngues de português e talian. A tarefa de nomeação de figuras continha uma condição bloqueada e uma condição voluntária. A condição bloqueada foi formada por dois blocos em que o participante deveria nomear as figuras utilizando a língua indicada em cada bloco. Já na condição voluntária o participante era livre para nomear as figuras em talian ou português. O segundo experimento foi uma tarefa de produção oral livre em que o participante assistia a uma animação e recontava a história ali apresentada. Elaborou-se também um Questionário de Hábitos de Alternância de Línguas para aferir o grau de variação individual de uso do talian no cotidiano dos participantes. Os resultados da tarefa de nomeação de figuras mostram que as médias de tempos de resposta na condição voluntária foram menores do que as médias das respostas da condição bloqueada, sugerindo que o uso livre de duas línguas gera menor custo de processamento do que o uso obrigatório de uma língua. Na condição bloqueada as nomeações em português foram mais rápidas do que em talian, por outro lado, na condição voluntária as nomeações em talian foram mais rápidas do que em português. Isso sugere que, ao ter que utilizar obrigatoriamente uma língua e sustentar o bloqueio da outra, bilíngues se beneficiam do uso da língua majoritária na tarefa de nomear figuras. Entretanto, quando há a possibilidade de utilizar as duas línguas livremente, o custo de processamento da língua de herança é menor, comparativamente ao uso da língua majoritária, pelo menos no nível lexical. Os resultados indicam também que o uso de code-switching é uma prática realizada pelos bilíngues do par português-talian na produção oral. Além disso, a tarefa de produção oral livre mostrou que a categoria de CS mais produzida é a intra-sentencial com alternância de múltiplos itens na frase.</br>Abstract : This dissertation addresses the phenomenon of code-switching (CS) in bilingual speakers ofthe heritage languages (HL) through the lens of experimental psycholinguistics. Thespecific objects of this investigation are to verify whether CS occurs in the oral productionof bilingual speakers of the Portuguese-Talian pair, to verify which category of CS ispredominant in such production, and to verify whether the switch of languages generatesprocessing costs. Two experiments were elaborated, consisting of a picture-naming taskand a free oral production task. The experiments were carried out with the participation of20 bilingual speakers of Portuguese and Talian. The picture-naming task included ablocked trial and a voluntary trial. The blocked trial was designed with two blocks in whichthe participant should name the pictures using the language indicated in each block,whereas in the voluntary trial the participant was free to name the pictures in Talian orPortuguese. The second experiment consisted of a free oral production in which theparticipant watched an animation and retold the story presented in it. An Assessment ofCodeswitching Experience Survey was also elaborated in order to assess the degree ofindividual variation in the use of Talian in the participants? day-to-day. The results of thepicture-naming task showed that the average response times in the voluntary trial werelower than the average response times of the blocked trial, suggesting that the free use ofthe two languages generates lower processing costs than the mandatory use of a language.In the blocked trial, designations in Portuguese were faster than in Talian; on the otherhand, in the voluntary trial, designations in Talian were faster than in Portuguese. Thissuggests that, in mandatorily using a language while sustaining the blocking of the other,bilinguals benefit from using the majority language in the picture-naming task. However,when it is possible to freely use the two languages, the processing cost of the heritagelanguage is lower in comparison with the use of the majority language, at least at the lexicallevel. The results also indicate that the use of code-switching is a practice carried out bybilinguals of the Portuguese-Talian pair in the oral production.
