Conjunturas locais, internas ao desenvolvimento urbano da cidade, e externas, vindas do além-mar, embora não de todo estranhas a uma sociedade com laços culturais duradouros com o território alemão, outorgaram a proeminência do então novo templo católico, que, transcendendo o valor religioso, se transformou em um símbolo urbano indissociável da imagética da cidade. Sua arquitetura revela camadas supralocais, nas quais a tradição construtiva milenar se mescla a novos parâmetros arquitetônicos e também novos valores sociais, em plena transformação e revisão no contexto, principalmente do avanço e apreensão das noções advindas da Arquitetura Moderna e do Liturgische Bewegung , o chamado Movimento de Renovação Litúrgica, no seio da Igreja Católica Apostólica Romana. Os traços e memórias de uma sacralidade espaço-temporalmente distante da realidade brasileira tornam o objeto um meio de enriquecimento cultural não somente pela novidade relativa em que consiste, mas também pela amplitude dos estudos desencadeados. A tradição construtiva de Dominikus Böhm, que navega destemidamente por horizontes além dos cânones daquilo que seria consolidado historiograficamente como moderno e avant-garde , é ainda pouco explorada no Brasil, e estudo do seu legado junto ao do filho, Gottfried Böhm, serve para ampliar a percepção e a valorização do patrimônio arquitetônico religioso no estado.</br>Abstract: The project of the Mother Church of São Paulo Apóstolo, built between 1953 and 1963 and today the Cathedral of Blumenau, Santa Catarina, connects this Brazilian city to two important names of the 20th century German church architecture, Dominikus Böhm (1880-1955) and his son Gottfried Böhm (1920). Local and external conjunctures, such as the ones linked to the development of the city, and others coming from overseas, although not entirely unfamiliar to a society with lasting cultural ties with the German people granted the prominence of the then new Catholic temple, which, transcending its religious value, has become an urban symbol inherent in the imagery of the city. Its architecture reveals supra-local layers, where ancient constructive tradition merges with new architectural parameters and changed social values in the context of the advance and apprehension of the notions arising from Modern Architecture and the so-called Liturgical Renewal Movement within the Roman Catholic Church. The traces and memories of a sacredness spatially distant from the Brazilian reality make the object a means of cultural enrichment not only because of the relative novelty in which it consists, but also because of the breadth of the studies that have been produced on it.
