Desde então, uma série de esforços internacionais foram realizados para impedir o acesso a armas nucleares de forma indiscriminada. O tratado internacional com maior abrangência na questão é o Tratado de Não Proliferação de Armas Nucleares, o TNP. Na América do Sul, Brasil e Argentina, aspirantes ao posto de potência regional, valorizavam o domínio tecnologia nuclear como passo fundamental que lhes trazia vantagem perante o outro na briga pela hegemonia no Cone Sul. Quando muitos pensavam que a América do Sul se transformaria numa área de tensão por conter as suas maiores potências com capacidade de construir armamentos atômicos, a saída construída por parte dos países foi inédita: a cooperação bilateral para findar o clima de desconfiança e tensão envolvendo os dois programas nucleares nacionais. Ao apresentar o processo de criação dos regimes internacionais de não proliferação de armas nucleares, fundamentados pelos tratados internacionais como o TNP e o Tratado de Tlatelolco, será possível visualizar a experiência brasileiro-argentina de construção de uma paz duradoura sendo uma alternativa a assinatura dos tratados dos tratados citados como único meio de impedir a proliferação de armas nucleares. Ao mesmo tempo, trazendo resultados que fortaleceu os regimes de não proliferação, reduzindo as probabilidades de construção de bombas atômicas por parte de Brasil e Argentina.After the end of the Second World War, in 1945, determined by the atomic bombs thrown in Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Japan, the world got to know the destruction capacity that the nuclear tecnology had if used with military purposes. Since then, several international actions were taken to avoid the access of nuclear weapons indiscriminately, the most important international treaty about the subject is the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, also known as NPT. In South America, Brazil and Argentina, both aspiring to regional power status, valued the control of nuclear technology as a central step that could put them at an edge in comparison with the other in the race for hegemony in the South Cone. When many thought that South America would transform into an area of tension by having its two biggest countries with the possibility of having atomic weapons, the alternative constructed by both countries was unprecedented: bilateral cooperation towards the end of suspicion and uncertainties around both national nuclear programs. By presenting the building process of international regimes of non-proliferation such as NPT and Tlatelolco Treaty, it’ll be possible to visualize the brazilian-argentine experiment as an alternative to the signature of these treaties as the only option to avoid nuclear weapons proliferation.
