Resumo: The civil construction industry uses materials that have negative impacts on the environment, such as the generation of a high amount of waste. On the other hand, innovations in construction elements, through the principles of design, an contribute to sustainability. Thus, the objective of the research is the technical evaluation of composites formed by different traces of soil-cement and construction and demolition residues (RCD), aiming at the future application in sealing bricks for popular housing in São Luís Island - MA. Thus, the research carries out a bibliographic review relating the themes of product design, materials and sustainability. In order to verify the hypothesis of an efficient and sustainable material for the local reality, different compositions of soil-cement-construction and demolition residues (RCD) were developed for making specimens, which are subjected to the analysis of technological properties. Following the guidelines of the standards, the tests selected for this research are: soil particle size analysis, linear shrinkage test, compressive strength test and water absorption test. With the positive results obtained, the feasibility of applying certain compositions for subsequent brick making as an alternative to the traditionally used ceramic bricks was concluded.
