A produção acadêmica ainda pouco expressiva a respeito sede tém na análise do discurso no documento, sem adentrar na sua funcionalidade política aos sujeitos que o sustentam. Por esta razão, foi escolhido como objeto da investigação o significado histórico do debate movido pelos países da América Latina, incluído o Brasil, no interior da FITS, sobre a Definição Internacional de Serviço Social. Em seu âmbito, buscou-se elucidar a questão da materialidade histórica das concepções contidas na Definição, de modo que estejam presentes, de forma orgânica e atual, nas tradições conservadoras da profissão no país, na região e no mundo. A metodologia estabelece como chave analítica a função intelectual do assistente social na emergência do Serviço Social,compreendida como variável da disputa de hegemonia na ordem monopólica imperialista. Utiliza-se dela para traçar as conexões entre as ideologias contidas nas propostas de intervenção do Serviço Social de maior peso e inventariadas na Definição, suas origens nos aparelhos privados de hegemonia internacionais ao longo da história da profissão e suas formas de difusão pelos assistentes sociais no Brasil - e, quando havido de forma sincrônica, na América Latina em geral, mas sem abordaras especificidades dos demais países do continente. Destarte, pôde-se apreender as diversas definições de Serviço Social ao longo da história, incluída a atual, como representações discursivas do consenso estabelecido em torno de determinada ideologia que dirige a atividade dos intelectuais no interior dos aparelhos privados de hegemonia, a exemplo da FITS, e representa, pois, a adesão orgânica a um projeto societário. As fontes de pesquisa são oriundas de documentos oficiais em suas versões online e produções bibliográficas, num arco histórico que se estende desde a origem da profissão nos EUA, Europa e América Latina, até a atualidade. Conclui-se que o embate pela revisão da Definição da FITS possui dois sentidos históricos: a luta pela voz do Serviço Social na América Latina pós-Reconceituação em meio à disputa de hegemonia que perpassa a profissão em âmbito internacional nos seus diversos aparelhos privados, sobretudo a FITS; e, a construção de um consenso contra-hegemônico àquele pautado no alinhamento das organizações internacionais da profissão à direção hegemônica da ONU, pautada no reformismo conservador, e cujos ditames representam uma nova vaga de colonização do Serviço Social em nosso continente.<br>Abstract: The research presented here has as its theme the International Definitionof Social Work of the International Federation of Social Workers(IFSW). The academic production, still little expressive about it, focuses in speech analysis in the document without entering in its policy functionality to the subjects that support it. For this reason it was chosen asthe research object the historical significance of the debate moved by Latin American countries, including Brazil, within the IFSW on the International Definition of Social Work. In its scope, we attempted to elucidate the question of historical materiality of the concepts contained in the definition, so that they are present, organic and current form, the conservative traditions of the profession in the country, the region and the world. The methodology establishes the analytical key intellectual function of the social worker in the emergence of Social Work, understood as a variable of the hegemony dispute in imperialist monopoly order. It is used this key to trace the connections between the ideologies contained in the policy proposals of the Social Work of greater weightand inventoried in the Definition, its origins in the international private apparatus of hegemony throughout the history of the profession and its forms of diffusion of social workers in Brazil - and when there synchronously, in Latin America in general, but without addressing the specifics of the other countries of the continent. Thus, it was possible to grasp thevarious definitions of social work throughout history, including the current one, as discursive representations of the consensus established around particular ideology that drives the activity of intellectuals within the private apparatus of hegemony, such as the IFSW and therefore represents the organic adherence to a society project. The research sourcesare from official documents in their online versions and literature production, a historic arc extending from the origin of the profession in the US, Europe and Latin America, to the present.
