Dentro do setor alimentício, a demanda por recursos para a criação de animais é imensamente superior àquela exigida para o cultivo de alimentos vegetais, ou para qualquer outra atividade econômica. Com o crescente aumento da procura por produtos de origem animal, há, concomitantemente, um aumento nas pressões que depositamos sobre os mais variados ecossistemas e recursos naturais da Terra. Sendo assim, aquilo que comemos exerce influência direta ao meio ambiente. Apesar da grande quantidade de evidências, essa questão ainda não é amplamente conhecida e, menos ainda, divulgada. Através da análise descritiva e comparativa de três edições dos Living Planet Report (LPR) – relatórios de cunho conservacionista, produzidos pela WWF – foi possível verificar de que forma a ONG insere a pecuária dentro da problemática ambiental e se essa questão recebeu maior importância ao decorrer dos anos nesses documentos. Para isso, todas as informações referentes à pecuária foram identificadas e dispostas de forma organizada e concisa. Feita a análise, ficou claro de que forma o tema é apresentado e como ganhou atenção crescente a cada edição dos relatórios, sendo discutido com maior frequência e aprofundamento, principalmente no LPR 2016, último relatório publicado até o início do desenvolvimento do presente trabalho. A partir dessa constatação, foi feita a reflexão sobre o porquê dessa diferença entre os documentos e a discussão sobre os graves problemas decorrentes dessa grande indústria e da grande demanda por seus produtos, como também a reflexão acerca da necessidade de se reduzir essa demanda em larga escala e de que maneira se pode/deve conduzir essa importante e urgente transformação, a começar pela divulgação e gradual conscientização dos problemas gerados pelo consumo excessivo dos produtos de origem animal.Several studies point out the livestock industry as the activity with the biggest environmental impact on the planet. Inside the food sector the demand for resources to raise livestock is immensely superior to the one required to farming vegetable products or to any other economic activity. With the increase on the search for animal products, there is, simultaneously, a growth on the pressure we deposit over the most varied ecosystems and natural resources on Earth. Thus, our food choices have direct influence over the environment. Despite the huge amount of evidence, this issue still isn’t widely known and less yet, disclosed. Through the descriptive and comparative analysis of three editions of Living Planet Report (LPR) – conservationist reports produced by WWF – it was possible to verify in what way the NGO introduces the livestock inside environmental problematic and if this issue received bigger importance through the passing years in these documents. For that, all the information regarding livestock was identified and then disposed in an arranged and succinct way. With the completion of the analysis, it was clear in what way the theme was presented and how it gained growing attention over the passing editions of the reports, being discussed more deeply and frequently, particularly at LPR 2016 – last published report until the beginning of the development of the present study.
