Resumo: This article consists in a study of composting as an alternative for recycling organic waste, and the role of the designer in the development of alternatives inserted in sustainability. This article starts from a literature review in conjunction with an analysis of current products.The method used for the development of this article was the qualitative research, to deepen the knowledge about the subject. The results achieved by the research includ a greater knowledge about the composting processes and their benefits, and the discussion of the designer's role in sustainability as a developer of alternatives. In addition, it was possible to observe some developed alternatives and analyze them from a Design perspective.

O trabalho parte de uma revisão de literatura em conjunto com uma análise de produtos atuais. O método utilizado para o desenvolvimento do artigo foi a pesquisa qualitativa, com o intuito de aprofundar os conhecimentos a respeito da temática abordada. Como principais resultados alcançados pela pesquisa, tem-se um maior conhecimento acerca dos processos de compostagem e seus benefícios, em conjunto com a discussão do papel do designer na sustentabilidade como desenvolvedor de alternativas.
