Odontologia.A dor orofacial afeta negativamente a vida do paciente, interferindo em suas atividades diárias e na qualidade do sono e é o principal sintoma da Disfunção Temporomandibular (DTM), motivando o paciente a buscar ajuda. Esta disfunção pode ser classificada em muscular e articular, e dentre elas, a muscular é a mais frequente e tornou-se queixa constante de dor na área da saúde. Geralmente, a dor afeta a área dos músculos temporal e masseter, e é agravada pela função. Na tentativa da remissão da dor nas consultas de urgência, vários procedimentos podem ser executados, podendo contemplar aconselhamentos e orientações, massagens, termoterapias, agulhamentos, placas e mais rotineiramente as terapias farmacológicas. Uma alternativa de baixo custo e de fácil execução é o uso da placa anterior. No entanto, existem questionamentos em relação a sua efetividade e utilização. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a eficácia do uso da placa anterior no alívio da dor de pacientes com DTM muscular dolorosa. Doze pacientes com dor orofacial foram atendidos de urgência no Centro Multidisciplinar de dor Orofacial da UFSC (CEMDOR) e após o diagnóstico de DTM muscular, e marcação na Escala de Análise Visual (EAV) para quantificar a dor naquele momento, foi confeccionada uma placa anterior, sem prescrição de medicação. Após 7 dias, os pacientes foram avaliados e preencheram a Escala de Percepção Global de Mudança (PGIC) e novamente marcaram a EAV. Os resultados mostraram que, em 80% dos pacientes, a placa anterior promoveu alívio da dor. Concluiu-se que a placa anterior configura ser eficaz na remissão da dor em pacientes de urgência com DTM muscular dolorosa.Orofacial pain negatively affects the patient's life, interfering in their daily activities, sleep quality and is the main symptom of temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD), motivating the patient to find help. This dysfunction can be muscular or articular, and among them, muscular is the most frequent and it is a constant complaint of pain in the health area. Usually, pain affects the area of the temporal and masseter muscles, and is aggravated by function. In an attempt to relieve pain in emergency consultations, various procedures can be made, which may include advice and guidance, massage, thermotherapies, acupuncture, plaques and more routinely pharmacological therapies. A cheap and easy alternative to make is the use of the anterior plate. However, there are questions regarding its effectiveness and use. Therefore, the objective of this study was to verify the efficacy of the anterior plaque in relieving pain in patients with painful muscular TMD. Twelve patients with orofacial pain were treated urgently at the Multidisciplinary Orofacial Pain Center of the UFSC (CEMDOR) and after the diagnosis of muscular TMD, and on the Visual Analysis Scale (VAS) to quantify the pain at that moment, a previous plaque was made, without prescription of medication. After 7 days, the patients were assessed and completed the Global Change Perception Scale (GCPS) and again marked the VAS. The results showed that 80% of the patients on the anterior plaque promoted pain relief.
