Os conhecimentos específicos da superfície de rolamento e do friso da roda ferroviária, bem como do boleto do trilho ferroviário são essenciais para o estudo do contato roda-trilho. Nesse caso, o contato se dá entre materiais metálicos, e ambos sofrem desgastes com a operação do material rodante na via permanente. O peso total de um veículo ferroviário, ou metroviário, é transmitido para a via permanente pela distribuição da força peso pelo somatório das áreas de contato das rodas do veículo com o trilho. Na região do contato entre roda e trilho têm-se uma distribuição de tensões na via permanente, assim como na roda, resultado da 3ª Lei de Newton, ou seja, a ação e reação. Essas tensões são geradas por carregamentos estáticos ou dinâmicos, para o veículo parado ou em movimento, respectivamente. Quando a tensão num dado ponto de um sólido, seja a roda ou trilho, exceder a tensão de escoamento do material metálico que compõem a estrutura ferroviária, os fenômenos de desgaste e fadiga termo-mecânica estarão envolvidos. Atualmente a literatura dispõe das teorias: i) Hertz, ii) Carter, iii) Johnson e Vermeulen e iv) Kalker; para explicar o contato roda-trilho. Dentro desse contexto, este trabalho revisa e compara as teorias que explicam a mecânica do contato roda-trilho, além de apontar os avanços científicos na área, a fim de fundamentar um levantamento teórico, aplicando a metodologia da Revisão Sistemática da Literatura.In Brazil, the railway and subway dynamics are due to wheel-rail contact. Specific knowledge of the rolling surface and the rail frieze as well as the rail billet is essential for the study of wheel-rail contact. In this case, the contact occurs between metallic materials, and both suffer wear, with the operation of the rolling stock in the permanent way. The total weight of a rail vehicle, or subway, is transmitted to the permanent way by the distribution of this weight force by the sum of the contact areas of the wheels of this vehicle with the rail. In the region of contact between wheel and rail there is a distribution of stresses in the permanent path, as well as in the wheel, result of Newton's 3rd law, that is, of the action and reaction. These voltages are generated by static or dynamic loads for the stationary or moving vehicle, respectively. When the stress at a given point of a solid, be it the wheel or rail, exceeds the flow stress of the metallic material that makes up the railway structure, the phenomena of thermal fatigue and fatigue will be involved. Currently the literature has theories: i) Hertz, ii) Carter, iii) Johnson and Vermeulen and iv) Kalker; to explain wheel-rail contact.
