Resumo: This article aims to analyze tourism as an economic field that would lead the city of Bragança-PA (northeast of the state of Pará) to socioeconomic development from the 1970s, with the opening of PA-458. The text discusses the reasons that caused local politicians to emphasize this type of activity as a field for the development of the city in such historical time by means of a highway of 36 km, connecting Bragança to the beach of Ajuruteua.
