Elderly in the labor market: implications for gerontological nursing

Resumo: | Aim: to reflect on the determinant aspects to the maintenance/reinsertion of the elderly in the labor market, considering the implications to gerontological nursing. Method: a theoretical-reflexive study about the elderly in the labor market and its repercussions on the practice of gerontological nursing. Results: there is a growing presence of the elderly in the labor market due to the need to maintain the social role, social security issues, loss of purchasing power and the need to provide for the family, thus making the demands of care in the area of gerontological nursing, that must contemplate aspects related to the working environment and the aging process. Conclusion: gerontological nursing has many possibilities to provide its skills and competences in the area of worker health, focused on the specificities of the elderly worker with a focus on strengthening the knowledge related to the triad aging/old age/work. |

Método: estudio teórico-reflexivo sobre el anciano en el mercado de trabajo y sus repercusiones a la práctica de la enfermería gerontológica. Resultados: hay la presencia creciente de los ancianos en el mercado de trabajo como consecuencia de la necesidad del mantenimiento de su papel social, de cuestiones de la seguridad social, de la pérdida del poder adquisitivo y de la necesidad de proveer a la familia, lo que implica en demandas mayores y más específicas en el cuidado en el área de la atención de enfermería gerontológica, que deben contemplar aspectos relacionados al ambiente de trabajo y al proceso de envejecimiento. Conclusión: la enfermería gerontológica posee innumerables posibilidades de prestar sus habilidades y competencias en el área de la salud del trabajador orientadas a las especificidades del trabajador anciano con énfasis en el fortalecimiento del conocimiento relacionado a la tríada envejecimiento/vejez/trabajo.Objetivo: refletir sobre os aspectos determinantes à manutenção/reinserção do idoso no mercado de trabalho, considerando as implicações à enfermagem gerontológica. Método: estudo teórico-reflexivo sobre o idoso no mercado de trabalho e suas repercussões à prática da enfermagem gerontológica. Resultados: há uma presença crescente dos idosos no mercado de trabalho em decorrência da necessidade de manutenção do papel social, questões previdenciárias, perda do poder aquisitivo e necessidade de prover a família, assim, tornando maiores e mais específicas as demandas de cuidado na área da enfermagem gerontológica que devem contemplar aspectos relacionados ao ambiente de trabalho e ao processo de envelhecimento.
