Quality of life in patients submitted to amputation

Resumo: Objective: to characterize the interviewed subjects regarding age frame, pathology and amputation level; to evaluate the quality of life of these patients. Method: a quantitative study. It had the participation of 11 patients submitted to amputation in 2009 in a public hospital from Porto Alegre, RS. The data were collected in the hospital records and by means of interview. Analysis utilized Epi-Info Software and WHOQOL-Bref instrument. Results: indication that 36.4% of the subjects evaluated their quality of life as neither bad nor good while 27.3% reported it as bad and very bad. The most frequent amputations refer to Diabetes Melittus, masculine sex and age frame between 41 and 60 years old. Conclusions: when people experience it, they face a condition that implies changes in their way of moving, working and getting along socially. The prevention and treatment of chronic diseases with their numberless complications are important and needed

Método: Estudio cuantitativo. Participaron 11 sujetos amputados en 2009, en un hospital público de Porto Alegre/RS. Los datos fueron recolectados en los prontuarios y por medio de entrevista. Para analizarlos, se utilizó el Software Epi-Info y el instrumento WHOQOL-Bref . Resultados: indican que el 36,4% de los sujetos evaluaron como ni mala/ni buena su calidad de vida ,mientras el 27,3% reportaron como mala y muy mala. Las amputaciones más frecuentes están relacionadas a la Diabetes Melittus, al sexo masculino y al grupo de edad entre 41 hasta 60 años. Conclusiones: las personas acometidas por este hecho se deparan con una situación que implica cambios en su modo de moverse, trabajar y convivir socialmente. Son importantes y necesarios la prevención y el tratamiento de enfermedades crónicas y de sus inúmeras complicaciones.Objetivos. caracterizar os sujeitos entrevistados quanto à faixa etária, patologia e nível da amputação; avaliar a qualidade de vida desses pacientes. Para análise utilizou-se o Software Epi-Info e o instrumento WHOQOL-Bref. Resultados: identificou-se que 36,4% dos sujeitos avaliaram como nem ruim/nem boa sua qualidade de vida e 27,3%, relataram como ruim e muito ruim. As amputações mais frequentes estão relacionadas ao Diabetes Melittus, sexo masculino e a faixa etária entre 41 a 60 anos. Conclusões: as pessoas, quando acometidos por este fato, se deparam com uma situação que implica mudanças no seu modo de se locomover, trabalhar e de conviver socialmente.
