The self-efficacy in breastfeeding of women in the prenatal and postpartum: longitudinal study

Resumo: Aim: to compare the averages of self-efficacy scores of women in prenatal and postpartum with the variables of pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and related to breastfeeding. Method: longitudinal study of Panel type, that evaluated 50 women in prenatal and puerperal in 2011, using the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale – Short Form and a form with data from the pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium. Results: statistical significance with the scale were shown by: planned pregnancy; to perform six or more antenatal consultations; to perform the preparation of breasts for breastfeeding; wish to breastfeed the child; participate in Group of pregnant women; vaginal birth in a public hospital; breastfeeding in the first hour of life and exclusively on maternity and on hospital discharge; not having trouble with breast-feeding. Conclusion: several factors may influence in the self-efficacy, being relevant promote breastfeeding such as the prenatal, to encourage this practice and to provide explanations to the mothers about the child's diet

Metodo: estudio longitudinal. Fueron evaluadas 50 mujeres en el prenatal y en el puerpério en el año 2011, utilizando la Breastfeeding SelfEfficacy Scale – Short-Form y un formulario con los datos del embarazo, parto y puerperio. Resultados: presentaron relación con autoeficacia en amamantar: embarazo planeado; realizar seis o más consultas prenatales; realizar el preparo de las mamas para amamantar; pretender amamantar el hijo; participar de grupo de gestantes; parto vaginal en hospital público; amamantar en la primera hora de vida y de forma exclusiva en la maternidad y en el alta hospitalaria; no tener dificultades para amamantar. Conclusión: varios factores pueden influir en la autoeficacia, siendo relevante la promoción de la lactancia materna el prenatal, para fomentar esta práctica y para proporcionar a las madres clarificación sobre la dieta del niño.Objetivo: comparar as médias dos escores de autoeficácia em amamentar das mulheres no pré-natal e no pós-parto com as variáveis da gravidez, do parto, do puerpério e relacionadas ao aleitamento materno. Método: estudo longitudinal do tipo painel, que avaliou 50 mulheres no pré-natal e puerpério em 2011, utilizando a Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale – Short-Form e um formulário com dados da gravidez, parto e puerpério. Resultados: apresentaram relação com autoeficácia em amamentar: gravidez planejada; realizar seis ou mais consultas pré-natais; realizar a preparação das mamas para amamentar; pretender amamentar o filho; participar de grupo de gestantes; parto vaginal em hospital público; amamentar na primeira hora de vida e de forma exclusiva na maternidade e na alta hospitalar; não ter dificuldades para amamentar.
