“Teatro agora é livre”: as contradições de Gama e Silva e as negociações com o setor teatral (1967-1968)

Resumo: n 1967 began a protest movement against censorship of public entertainment, with a special participation of artists and intellectuals involved with theater. This movement of the intelligentsia has generated ambiguous attitudes of the minister of Justice Gama e Silva, who initially supported the demand of the artists and promised to put an end to theatrical censorship to then endorse the government in its project of politicization of censorship. Gama e Silva’s change of position is the starting point for analyzing the emergence of a strong debate on the subject.

Essa ampla movimentação da intelectualidade desencadeou atitudes ambíguas do ministro que, inicialmente, apoiou a maior reivindicação do setor e prometeu pôr um fim à censura teatral para, em seguida, apoiar o governo no seu projeto de politização da censura e continuidade da prática centralizada.
