Resumo: This paper discusses the problem of the term history in the critical fortune of the book A rosa do povo, by Carlos Drummond de Andrade. We carried out a reading of part of the critical fortune of this work, looking at the interpretations of the history in it, in order to understand the state of the question. Our hypothesis suggests that, from 1945 to the end of the 1980s, there is a tendency to use the term 'history' in a general way, without analyzing the issue in Drummond's poems, a trait of critical reception directly linked to the unfavorable conditions of censorship and repression experienced by Brazilian literary critics, a situation inherited from the Estado Novo (1937-1945) and deepened with the Military Dictatorship (1964-1985). From the 1990s onwards, there is a change in the approach to the term, when works appear that focus on poems in a detained manner. This shift, in our view, is due to a context, in theory, less conservative, which allows the emergence of other categories, concepts and approaches to Drummond's lyrics in the academic field.

Realizamos a leitura de parte da fortuna crítica de A rosa do povo, mirando as interpretações sobre a história na obra, a fim de compreender o estado da questão. Nossa hipótese sugere que, de 1945 até fins da década de 80, há uma tendência ao emprego do termo ‘história’ de forma generalizante, sem análise da questão nos poemas drummondianos, traço de recepção crítica diretamente ligado às condições desfavoráveis de censura e repressão vividas pela crítica literária brasileira, situação herdada do Estado Novo (1937-1945) e aprofundada com a Ditadura Militar (1964-1985). A partir dos anos 90 ocorre uma mudança na abordagem do termo, quando aparecem trabalhos que se debruçam sobre os poemas de maneira detida.
