Resumo: This work presents an analysis of the short story “Nobody killed Suhura” by Mozambican writer Lília Momplé. Starting from an analytical approach that pursues the procedures of construction of meaning, the present text aims to present the problem of looking and image as elements of the configuration of the elements of repression and subordination present in the context of Portuguese colonization in Mozambique. The reading will be developed with a strict focus on language procedures, although a theoretical background inspired by the problem of the axiological dimension of authorial awareness is noticeable, especially with regard to style problems, which requires us to recognize Mikhail Bakhtin's contribution in this regard, mainly in essays in which the problem is addressed in Estética da criação verbal (2011).
