Resumo: This article attempts to draw comparisons between two novels: K (originally published in 2011) by Bernardo Kucinski, which discusses the disappearance of the author’s sister and brother-in-law during the rule of the military dictatorship, though the voices of various witnesses, including torturers, while centering on the young woman’s father’s search for their whereabouts (or at least their remains), and The Trial by Franz Kafka, based on obvious references the former makes to the latter, and, in contrast to this obviousness, to also distance the two by pointing out differences and distinctions in each work. The article also addresses aspects of trauma theory as a possible means for reflection and analysisof the literary formalization of limit-experiences characterized by testimonial content, including the issue of survivor guilt and its ethical and aesthetic possibilities.
