Resumo: In this article, an analysis of the short story "Nos han dado la tierra", by Juan Rulfo from El llano en llamas (1953) was developed, highlighting the agrarian reform process.  In this story, a critique of the distribution of infertile land by the government is performed which, instead of attenuating social inequalities, ends up perpetuating and, in some cases overcoming them. To construct the reading proposal, the text was divided into three parts:  firstly a rescue of Mexican history during the revolutionary period (beginning of the 20th century) is done. Next a discussion on the question of national belonging and the importance of having a fraction of the territory of a country is established. Thirdly an interpretation of Rulfo's tale, associating the discussions explored in the previous items, is presented.
