Resumo: This article evaluates the role of political publisher presses in Portugal, before and after the Carnation Revolution in 1974. Firstly, I intend to demonstrate that, in spite of the repression and censorship under dictatorship, these presses were able to have an important role, by publishing books that were a challenge to power. Secondly, I indicate how the revolutionary process was reflecting in the publisher’s field. And finally, I focus in two important publishers presses: Seara Nova and Estampa. Both were already very active in publishing leftwing literature even during the dictatorship. They also had connections with the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) and increased their space in the Portuguese publishers’ world after the April, 25th 1974.
