Resumo: This study aimed to evaluate the association between gluten intake and bowel habits of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder. For this, we performed a cross-sectional study of 30 people with autism spectrum disorder aged 10 to 18 years old. Gluten intake was assessed by a food frequency questionnaire and bowel habits were evaluated by the Bristol Stool Form Scale. Most participants consumed foods containing gluten. Almost half of the participants (46.6%) showed constipation or diarrhea and there was no association between bowel habits and the frequency of intake of foods containing gluten. Thus, the present study did not show results that confirm the relationship between gluten intake and bowel habits of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder.

Universidade Federal de Santa Maria2019-04-22info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/2832110.5902/2236583428321Saúde (Santa Maria); Revista Saúde (Santa Maria), Vol.45, n.1, jan.-abr. 2019Saúde (Santa Maria); Revista Saúde (Santa Maria), Vol.45, n.1, jan.-abr. 20192236-58340103-4499reponame:Saúde (Santa Maria)instname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMporhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/28321/pdfCopyright (c) 2019 Saúde (Santa Maria)info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessPitombo, Victória CredidioFernandes, Rita de Cássia SouzaSimony, Rosana FarahChaud, Daniela Maria Alves2019-11-18T15:08:02Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/28321Revistahttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaudePUBhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/oairevistasaude.ufsm@gmail.com || amanda.revsaude@gmail.com || beatriz.revsaude@gmail.com2236-58342236-5834opendoar:2019-11-18T15:08:02Saúde (Santa Maria) - Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)false
