Pregnancy in adolescence: profile of cases occurred in the state of Goiás from 2005 to 2015

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the profile of births occurring in the state of Goiás between 2005 and 2015 among adolescent mothers aged 10 to 19 years. Method: A cross-sectional and retrospective descriptive study was carried out. Secondary data collection was done through data available on the website of the Department of Informatics of the National Health System (Datasus). Results: The results showed that during the period from 2005 to 2015, there were a total of 199,983 births among mothers aged 10 to 19 years. The highest birth registration for adolescent mothers occurred in 2005. It was detected that 53% of the adolescents from Goiás had between 8 and 11 years of schooling. Among the 10 Goiânia municipalities with the highest birth rates among adolescents, the municipality of Goiânia had the highest incidence, 32,600 births between 2005 and 2015. The majority of mothers aged 10 to 19 years were respectively single when the childbirth occurred. 86% of these adolescents had the gestational period between 37 and 41 weeks. Between 2005 and 2015 there was also a percentage of 4% of births with children who presented congenital anomaly
